Candle Keep - The Burntwood

Candle Keep is bordered by the Burntwood, where the trees are twisted and blackened as though a fire had raged through.

Many of the trees are dead but those that sprout brown and black leaves also have bark and knots that resemble faces. Their branches are also home to large black, alligator-skinned snakes that resembled burned branches (also somewhat like Xenodermus). These snakes rarely attack humanoids and are seen as protector spirits by the villagers as they prey upon the vine blights and spiders that emerge from deeper in the Burntwood.

The heart of the Burntwood is home to Mhyrryss, a wolf spider the size of a house (SM +7), who is always accompanied by her brood of smaller (yet still terrifyingly large) spiders. Mhyrryss usually gives Candle Keep a wide berth as the snakes eat her babies and she, somewhat ironically, is scared of fire. One of the many reasons the keep maintains the beacon light in the tower.
