Not sure how far a Ready maneuver will pull the victim. It says to use the Roper's ST or the strand's ST, so it seems like it relies on a ST roll. The Grapple rules have a "drag" option but it is your own move or step. That would mean it would take 20 seconds for a roper to drag someone in from maximum range, which makes some sense but is a VERY long time in GURPS combat. I feel like it should be faster, like a Quick Contest of ST with the victim being dragged some portion of the margin of victory (MOV) yards closer. That would really leverage the roper's high ST and lead to weaker characters possibly being flung 20 yards into the roper's waiting mouth. But with ST 28, even a super-macho ST 18 Barbarian has almost no chance to resist being pulled a good distance each turn.
Edit: Asked about it on the GURPS discord. The retractable modifier is appareny someone's homebrew rule and their website does not have any clarifying information. The suggestion from the discord was to run it as a QC of ST and pull MOV yards closer (as I suspected).
